Mayfield Park - Austin, Texas
As seen at Mayfield Park in West Austin this past weekend. Mayfield Park is on the National Register of Historic Places and was an old estate with cottages and gardens. It is now public park, maintained by the city, and it's famous for the many peacocks that wander the grounds. This year has been one of the best for wild flower displays in recent memory. Usually by this time, the grasses become dry and burnt out and any sign of the spring flowers are long gone. Bluebonnets - Austin, Texas
After the worst drought and the hottest temperatures on record last summer, Central Texas has finally begun to receive some rain. Consequently, this year's wild flower display has been spectacular. My schedule did not allow for a hill country wild flower photo excursion. A Park on Bull Creek - Austin, Texas
After the worst drought and the hottest temperatures on record last summer, Central Texas has finally begun to receive some rain. This park by Bull Creek in West Austin is greener than usual. Despite the rain, unfortunately, the area is still officially in drought. The striking wild flowers as seen at Wilder Ranch State Park in California. Wilder Ranch is part of the California State Park system and is located just north of Santa Cruz, California. I was attracted by the color of the flowers and its contrast to the cool blue of the ocean. The view beyond the old fence at Wilder Ranch State Park in California. Wilder Ranch is part of the California State Park system and is located just north of Santa Cruz, California. I like the contrast of the rustic fence to the beautiful coastal scenery beyond. The fireworks shows all over central Texas were cancelled this year because of the fire danger caused by the extreme drought. This photograph, taken from the 360 bridge, was shot last year, in 2010. Happy Independence Day!
