Kamo River and Distant Mountains - Kyoto, Japan

As seen from the Shijo Dori Bridge in Kyoto, Japan. In addition to the plentiful traditional architecture and stylish stores, Kyoto has a lot of natural beauty. I love the Kamo river that runs through the city and the view north towards the distant mountains.

Pedestrians, Shijo Dori Bridge - Kyoto, Japan

Another view of Shijo Dori bridge, this time from on top of the bridge. Shijo Dori is a major road in Kyoto and this bridge separates the modern central business district from the historic temples on the east side. Kyoto is a picturesque city with the Kamo river and the mountains to the north.

Men at Work, Lower Manhattan - New York, New York

New York City is always fun for people watching, especially construction sites with heavy machinery and people with character. Women in Kimono, Nenenosaka - Kyoto, Japan

The eastern mountains of Kyoto are very picturesque with many traditional buildings. I shot this street scene in the Ninenzaka and Sannensaka area, also known as Nenenosaka, right near the famous Kiyomizudera Temple. Many of the women in kimonos in these area are typically tourists that dress up for fun.

Wall Detail - Kyoto, Japan

Wall detail as seen in an old neighborhood in the east side of Kyoto, Japan. This is a closeup of a roof tile that is also used on top of traditional Japanese walls. I used shallow depth of field with the large aperture Olympus 45mm f1.8 lens to focus on one tile.

Traditional Temple Gate - Kyoto, Japan

I found this traditional temple gate just south of Maruyama Park in Kyoto, Japan. There are so many temples and old buildings in Kyoto, it is easy to stumble upon beautiful, old architecture. This place appears to be less well known, therefore, it has the benefit of not being mobbed by tourists.

Hanging Lanterns, Yasaka Shrine - Kyoto, Japan

As seen at Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, Japan. I love the contrast of these repeating black hanging lanterns against the bright orange. Shrines, which are called Jinja, in Japanese, are buildings used in the Shinto religion.

Happy Couple, ROT Rally Parade - Austin, Texas

Here is a close up of the same couple I posted yesterday. Taken at last Friday's ROT (Republic of Texas) Rally Parade in downtown Austin, Texas. More than 50,000 bikers come to Austin for their annual biker rally, one the largest in the United States. Blowing Bubbles, Eeyore's Birthday - Austin, Texas

One last image from Eeyore's Birthday Party, which was held last Saturday in Austin's Pease Park. I noticed this woman blowing bubbles in the middle of the drum circle as people danced around her. It seems to capture the festive feel of the event with everyone getting into the music.

Dancer, Eeyore's Birthday Party - Austin, Texas

This dancer was captured within a drum circle at Eeyore's Birthday Party in Austin, Texas. Eeyore's is a throwback to the hippie era with a lot of dancing, hula hoops and wild carefree fun.
