Wendy from Federal Express, Udvar-Hazy Center - Chantilly, Virginia

This small unassuming plane named Wendy is the first of 14 planes used for a revolutionary delivery service from a company called Federal Express. Based out of Memphis, Tennessee, the company grew tremendously and eventually shorted its name to FedEx.

Clipper Flying Cloud, Udvar-Hazy Center - Chantilly, Virginia

According to a Boeing press release, the first Boeing 307 Stratoliner, named the Clipper Flying Cloud, was delivered to Pan American Airways in 1940. The Boeing 307 is the world first pressurized commercial airplane.

Observation Tower, Udvar-Hazy Center - Chantilly, Virginia

The observation tower at the Udvar-Hazy Center, a companion facility to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. Located in Chantilly, Virginia near Dulles Airport, this giant hanger like facility contains the planes that could not be displayed at the original Air and Space Museum because of space constraints.

Hope Diamond, Smithsonian Natural History Museum - Washington DC

Much has been written about the Hope Diamond. It originated in India, passed through France and the United Kingdom and finally to the United States and now on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. It's 45.52 carats and the bluish color is created by Boron in its crystal structure.

Rotunda, Smithsonian Natural History Museum - Washington DC

Here is another view of the Rotunda at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC. This building, part of the Smithsonian Institution, was completed in 1910. The black and white conversion gives the photo an old-world timeless appearance.

Russell Senate Office Building - Washington DC

Across the street from the United States Capitol sits the Russell Senate Office Building where many of the United States Senator's offices are located. We went to our Texas Senator's office to pickup tickets so that we can view the House and Senate chambers in the Capitol.

The capitol tour is crowded and popular. The tour guide, in the red jacket, is pointing out the artwork, "General George Washington Resigning his Commission" by artist John Trumbull. The piece is located in the Capitol Rotunda under the big dome.

Traveling East During a Sunset - Somewhere Between Texas and Virginia

Photographs of airplane wings taken during flight are nothing original. I like this one more than the usual since the sunset coming from the back nicely illuminated sections of the wing -- it created a two toned effect with the warm and the cool colors. Taken during a flight, a couple of days ago, between Dallas, Texas and Richmond, Virginia.
