Bold Neon, Alamo Draft House - Austin, Texas

There is no doubt where you are when you enter the Alamo Draft House in north-west Austin. The bold neon is visually striking and a good candidate to be featured on mostlyfotos.

Lucky Neon and Frost Tower - Austin, Texas

I love neon and the Lucky Lounge sign in downtown Austin is one of my favorites. Here the Frost Tower is used as a backdrop and a bit of balance. I took this photograph a couple weeks ago to test a new lens. This new lens enabled me to handhold this image at ISO 200. Hover over the photograph to see the camera information.

Blackmail and Boot Neon Closeup, SoCo - Austin, Texas

The interplay of neon signs as seen in SoCo, Austin, Texas. There are some nice neon signs in SoCo, South Congress area just south of downtown. They are frequent photography subjects of mine. Moody Glow, Mels Drive-in - San Francisco, California

Continuing with the neon theme, here is one more neon image, again from San Francisco's SoMa (South of Market) district. This one is more moody than the previous day's and I like the glow and the subtle light and color reflection off the street.

Sherman Clay Neon, Rush Hour - San Francisco, California

More neon from a downtown location. In a stark contrast to yesterday's neon taken in a quiet, late night scene from Sacramento, today we are in San Francisco during rush hour. I've photographed this Sherman Clay sign several times but never liked the result. I like this one because, in addition to the glow of neon, there are other nice reflections and and great looking urban color.

Neon, Esquire Imax Theatre - Sacramento, California

Just down a bit from the Crest Theater on K street, I saw a bright red glow. It was from the Esquire Imax Theatre, located in downtown Sacramento. I always take an opportunity to capture neon images, too bad it was already dark and I didn't capture this during blue hour.

Il Fornaio Neon Glow - Sacramento, California

It seems that I never pass up the opportunity to take pictures of glowing neon signs at blue hour. This one was taken in Sacramento, California, after a nice Italian dinner at Il Fornaio. Blue Hour on the Drag, University of Texas - Austin, Texas

Here is another Blue Hour scene from the University of Texas photowalk, this past weekend. You can see the Varsity Neon, that I posted yesterday. This is a wider angle of 24th and Guadalupe Streets on "The Drag", a shopping area on the western edge of campus. The Varsity building used to be a Tower Records store, back not too long ago, when selling records and CDs were profitable. The cloud texture during blue hour was particularly interesting that night. Varsity Neon, University of Texas - Austin, Texas

Right next to the University of Texas on Guadalupe Street, also known as "The Drag", I noticed this new development. What was once a Tower Records store has been converted into several restaurants. A group of us arrived in this area, near blue hour, after a photo walk of the UT campus. I couldn't resist taking may favorite kind of image, neon lights against a deep blue sky. Wild Neon, Bone Daddy's - Austin, Texas

The wild and colorful neon at the Bone Daddy's restaurant in North Austin. I've been attracted to the neon for a while as I frequently pass through the area. I finally shot the building just before I picked up a friend at a nearby hotel. I also like the reflections off the parked vehicles on which I focused for this photograph.
