Rusted Eye - Smithville, Texas

I absolutely love the rich color and the crunchy texture of the peeling paint. The "eye" is located at the top of old gas pump that I have photographed several times in Smithville, Texas. As seen during the fourth annual Texas Photo Festival.

Alternate Uses, Barber Shop - Taylor, Texas

Not quite your typical barber shop, as seen in downtown Taylor, Texas. On my recent, first time visit to Taylor, I've discovered the old downtown core has seen better times. A strip of stores including this former barber shop looks more like a junk shop. The quality of merchandise is below the level of an antique store or even flea market. You maybe able to make out the sign in the window that says "Building for Sale".

Fading Modernism, KINCL Building - Taylor, Texas

The KINCL building in downtown Taylor, Texas. For some reason, I was visually struck by the appearance of this building as I drove into town. The bold KINCL sign and the optimistic 50s looking modernist architecture is in stark contrast to the reality of its fading state. I shot several different angles but I like this image of the warmth of the setting sun against the gracefully aging storefront.

Seaholm Power Plant, Lower Level - Austin, Texas

The lower level of the Seaholm Power Plant in downtown Austin, Texas. The power plant has been decommissioned for years and there are plans to turn this structure into a shopping mall. This catwalk would have been located next to one of the massive generators that have already been removed. I processed the photograph lightly with HDR to bring out the texture in the concrete. Eastern State Penitentiary, Al Capone's Cell - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Al Capone, Chicago's famous mob boss, stayed 8 months (1929 - 1930) in this cell at Eastern State Penitentiary located near downtown Philadelphia. The famous inmate received spacial treatment with a luxuriously appointed cell, unlike any other at the prison. Eastern State Penitentiary was operational from 1829 to 1971. It was a revolutionary design for its time and it became a model for over 300 prisons worldwide. Click here for a photograph of the two story hallway located in the newer section of the prison.

The Eastern State Penitentiary was operational from 1829 to 1971. It was a revolutionary design for its time and it became a model for over 300 prisons worldwide. This 2 level section is the newer area of the prison.
