I find these faux aged signs and buildings amusing. They remind me of Disneyland. Artificial effects to give instant character and history. Santana Row in San Jose, where this image was taken, is an entire "lifestyle mall" with these faux elements. The thing is, Santana Row does this very well and there is more of an urban feel to this space. I certainly prefer it to the bland suburban sprawl that is characteristic of the last 50 year of US development.
